memcached is a general-purpose in-memory caching system. It is used to speed up database-driven websites, php API calls by caching data objects in RAM to reduce the number of times an slower, external data source must be read. It has grown rapidly as a way for operators and developers of complex web sites to scale their websites.
Download MemcachedThis is a free commercial memcached trial version that Gear6 made available for developers. You'll have to register for the download, but these Gear6 guys are the major contributor for the open source version.
